Anorexia increasing problem in the UK

Daily Mail reports that anorexia is an increasing problem in the UK. Number of young girls that were received in the hospital because of this diet disorder almost has doubled in the last ten years.

A significant impact on the expansion of the disease, in addition to all other reasons, had celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan or Victoria Beckham. Celebrities today dictate trends in fashion and beauty, and very often cannot be a good example to teenage girls. Mary Kate Olsen, for example, admitted that her lack of kilos almost killed and that she searched for medical help because of problems with anorexia. Last data show that in the UK about 1.1 million people have big problems with the diet, but only few of them agree to hospitalization. However, statistics show that the number of hospitalized girls up to age 16 in 2007 increased by an amazing 80% compared to 1997. Susan Ringwood from NGOs Beat believes that the facts are defeating. 'This is shocking! But even the bigger problem is that neither we nor the states have any official data on the number of people who suffer from anorexia. I think that this problem should not be underestimated, we must come together and make some concrete steps in combating the problems of eating disorders’ says Susan.
